In the last five to ten years, the gaming industry has advanced and expanded rapidly. The world of online gaming is no longer restricted to PC users. Due to better internet technology and cloud hosting, more and more gaming platforms are able to offer interactive and shared gaming experiences to its users on a larger scale. The video game company, THQ, recently announced that taking a new approach to gaming. THQ is bringing its uDraw gaming tablet to Sony and Microsoft later this year. It will work with the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 that will, hopefully, wet the appetites for newer and fresher approaches to gaming experiences that extend beyond existing platforms.
The uDraw tablet is slated for release later this year during the holiday season and is likely to be one of top gifts around Christmas time. The Wii currently has a version out that comes in at around 70 dollars. THQ hasn?t stated yet how much its tablet will cost, but it?s likely to be more expensive, especially with its high-definition version. In addition, the uDraw has a touch-screen that users will be able to control with their fingers. This new version will no longer require users to attach a controller or other handheld devices, which is a feature that the Wii version currently doesn?t offer.
THQ has a reputation, with its wrestling and kid-friendly games, for appealing to younger audiences but the company is hoping to expand its appeal in both demographics and scale. The uDraw tablet is one of its first attempts towards this end. The tablet will offer online connectivity for various gaming interface options, but most expect that it will still, predominantly, appeal to children.
The device is decidedly taking a more interactive and creative approach to gaming and will allow players to, with certain games, paint and doodle using an attached stylus or their fingers. With the online feature, users will be able to share their creations online through Facebook. This is just another step for the gaming industry that?s all about giving their users new experiences and greater interaction.
This is just the first step in a new concept called video game art. There have been other examples of this approach to gaming but this is just the newest model. Back in ?07, THQ released the ?Drawn to Life? that was designed for the handheld Nintendo DS device. This is just the newest incarnation and it?s likely to be more online based and about involving the user. The gaming industry can thank innovations, like private cloud, that have improved hosting, perforce, and the users? experience. There?s a big demand for these systems and people look for newer ways to interact with technology and games.
