THE first wedding at Liverpool?s St George?s Hall will be hosted on Valentine?s Day weekend, and Liverpool couple Hanifa Mitole and Chukwunenye NKeze couldn't be happier.
The ECHO exclusively revealed last year how the council?s birth, deaths and marriages service was set for a major move.
Leaving the Cotton Exchange on Old Hall Street to cross the city centre to St George?s Plateau the revamp has taken 15 months.
And the first wedding to take place at the impressive neo-classical building has now been pencilled in for February 11 in either The Grand Jury Room or smaller Sefton Room.
The lucky couple due to tie the knot are Hanifa Mitole, 31, and Chukwuneye NKeze, 36.
Originally from Zimbabwe and Nigeria respectively they jointly run a general store together in Anfield.
Meeting in 2007, when Chukwuneye came from London to Liverpool, Hanifa is on maternity leave with their first child.
The mum-of-one told the ECHO: ?We went to the Cotton Exchange to book and they told us about the move ? surprisingly we?re the first!
?I can?t get wait to get married in St George?s Hall, it?s beautiful.
?We?ll make sure we get pictures inside and out.?
Tracy Lowe, 35, and Stephen Coventry, 28, from Bootle are the second couple scheduled to tie the knot.
Support care worker Stephen said: ?I?m made up. It?s a really posh building. All the family can?t wait.
?We?ve got 70 people coming to the ceremony and 120 for the reception at the Head of Steam pub.
?We even booked St George?s Hall online.?
