?Give them a product they may like it. Give them a experience, they will never forget it? ? Kurt Ammann, General Manager, Dierberg and Star Lane Winery
Last week bloggers Candice Kahn (@fashorganized), Kadi Prescott (@kadiprescott), Kim Tracy Prince (@kimtracyprince), Romy Schorr (@romyraves) and myself were treated to just that ? an experience that we will be talking about for years to come.
People who understand the power of social media understand that if you give bloggers something great to talk about, they will do just that. And when Jon Boring of The California Wine Club approached Candice Kahn about organizing a day trip to the Santa Ynez Valley, he knew that he would be giving us an experience that we?d talk about with genuine excitement for weeks.
While the trip?s main purpose was to garner attention for the The California Wine Club?s Father?s Day promotion, with a tweet-reach of over 2 million impressions on the day of the trip alone The California Wine Club received much more positive press on a variety of outlets than it would have with a sponsored post alone.
So what did the bloggers learn about wine ? other than we all really, really like good California Wine???I asked Jon the most important questions to ask when choosing a good wine, whether it be a gift, to pair with a meal or just to enjoy a glass at home.
Do you want?red or white wine?
This is probably one of the simplest decisions to make. Red types are often taken with meals that contain any form of meat, particularly red meat. White types are normally taken along with any white meat, like fish. For a casual drink, generally the red wine is first choice.
Do you want a?dry or sweet wine?
If a person is looking for something to add a bit of sting to their tongue, a dry choice is preferable. A dry choice is almost opposite to a sweet choice in that there is no sweetness to the wine. Sweet wines are hardly chosen as a preferred drink because drinking these is almost like having a soft drink, but with alcohol in it.
Do you want to spend the big bucks on a really good bottle?
If you want to look for an?expensive bottle, look at the farm or area it is in produced in. Particular farms or brand names are household names and have a good reputation for producing?wines. Conducting greater research into these farms will give one an idea of which wines will be better to choose. Also, be sure to look at the?maturity of the wine. Some of these were made awhile ago. Since wines last long they have a long maturity date ? but be careful to choose a drink that will not become foul or lose its taste too quickly.
Where, or for what reason, will you be drinking the wine?
If it is for a?social or casual occasion a normal house bottle will be sufficient. Ask the store if they keep these. Otherwise there are a lot of expensive options, but these are normally given as?gifts.
