NBC and the NFL ? Thank You!

Regulars know that I don?t make/have much money. Cable TV isn?t in our town, not that it matters because I can?t afford it. I had to decide between getting a dish or paying my downstairs neighbor ($30 a month) to allow me to tap into his internet wi-fi. I chose the latter.

There are only two ?rabbit-ear? TV stations that can be received around here and after my converter box died, I said, ??eff-it.?

So, any television that I watch, I do so through various internet broadcasters. NBC has been kind enough to provide a legal feed to some of their football games. Now . . . From CNN:

For the first time ever the Super Bowl, along with some postseason NFL games, will be streamed online and through the league?s mobile apps, the NFL and partner Verizon Wireless announced Tuesday.

The upcoming wild card games, the Pro Bowl and the Super Bowl ? TV?s most-watched annual event ? will be streamed for free to computers on NFL.com and NBCSports.com.

Thank you! I could care less about basketball or hockey, I?m sorta? ?meh? about baseball, but I have always loved football and this is a terrific gift for poor bastards like me who otherwise would miss these great games.

Nobody?s ever explained to me WHY broadcasters would NOT want to stream their channels (or why they go after people who DO) on the internet. After all, isn?t a bigger audience a better thing ? more folks watching the commercials? Some networks are very aggressive about shutting down the aggregator sites of TV streams. Others, like Fox, seem to look the other way.

Anyway, this is the only good news I?ve read, today.
