Congratulations! You?ve stumbled upon the best blog post on parenting of all time!
You are about to learn how to be the BEST dad in the world in just 4 hours a week. That?s all it takes. Just 240 minutes of your most precious resource will have your children singing your praises, eating with their mouths closed and getting home before curfew (after washing the car and filling it with gas of course).
PSYCHE!!
As much as I?m a fan of the 4-hour zen like get-things-done concept popularized by Tim Ferriss, you can?t be a good dad in that amount of time, let alone a great one.
Being a father takes a lot of time.
Time at work to provide for the family and demonstrate how to chase a dream responsibly.
Time at home to play games, empty the dishwasher and change dirty diapers (among many other things).
Time in the hallway walking back and forth with a screaming baby.
Time at school attending parent-teacher meetings and pretending to be a world-class photographer during choir concerts and graduations.
Time at fields cheering on aspiring athletes who just want to know what is for snack and stare at the sky watching planes.
Time in auditoriums politely clapping at after every act of the ballet until your tiny dancer?s tap dancing number hits the stage.
Time at church serving together, worshiping and passing down faith and values.
Time in the Word growing your faith and focusing on God (this is where I need the most improvement).
In a few sentences I just captured years of your life as a parent. You can just forget about being a 4-Hour Father. I think even Mr. Ferriss would agree with me (and he?d probably make a good dad).
Questions: How many hours a week do you spend as ?Dad? (or ?Mom? for my wonderful lady readers)??What is one thing you want to improve on as a parent?
