It may come as a surprise to some, but there are still a fairly substantial number of businesses out there that use faxes for their communications. Thus, using the Fax Burner app to turn your iPhone 5 into a portable fax machine may seem strange, but will have plenty of value in the end.
The Fax Burner app for iOS allows users to do much like the name implies, both send and receive faxes from an iPhone. Receiving a fax is fairly simple; the app provides a fax number with the push of a button that can be used for up to 24 hours before the number is re-issued somewhere else. When a fax comes in, Fax Burner sends a notification, then stores the fax on your phone and sends a second copy to the email inbox you provide to Fax Burner. Better yet, sending faxes is also rather simple; just use the touchscreen keyboard to type a quick cover letter, then use the iPhone?s camera (it will also work with iPads and any version of an iPod Touch that packs a camera and is running iOS 3.2 or beyond) to take a picture of the documents to send, and the whole thing goes out via the cellular connection, or by Wi-Fi if you?re in range.
The app itself works surprisingly well. Setup time is minimal?those behind it suggests it takes two minutes to get operational, but naturally, mileage will almost certainly vary on that point?and the interface is sufficiently well laid out to make the selection of options a comparatively simple task. Those concerned about security will have a valid concern here, one the company behind Fax Burner tries to address with their longevity in the field. They?ve been in operation for eight years, seemingly without incident, but the phrase ?there?s a first time for everything? seems to ring in the ear.
Perhaps the best part is that the application itself is free, at least for now, so those interested can get their hands on it and give it a shot with a minimum of investment, limited essentially to time and bandwidth spent to get it.
Ease of faxing is a valuable part of operations for a lot of different companies, but one thing that?s clear is that it?s not the only part by any stretch. Cloud-based telephony tools can also join in the faxing concept with digital fax receiving options, as well as stepping it up to include live agent consoles, making it easy to get in contact with customers by several different measures. The easier it is for customers to contact you, the more likely they are to remain your customers.
So while Fax Burner may have plenty of value for a small business, it?s not going to be a full platform in its own right.
