Disney and Charter Communications Enter Multi-Platform ...

The Walt Disney Company has entered a multi-year distribution deal with cable and broadband provider Charter Communications that will bring expanded Disney content to Charter customers across a variety of platforms, the companies said Monday.

Under the long-term agreement, which begins in the first half of 2013, Disney programming will be available to Charter customers via television, computer, smartphone, tablet, gaming consoles and internet-enabled televisions. The new expanded rights package will include ABC on Demand, ABC Family on Demand, expanded content from ESPN on Demand, and Disney-branded on-demand channels.

The new deal will also include the launch of the new Longhorn Network, which will be available in Texas, Louisiana and Virginia systems by next year's football season.

?This agreement enables us to offer our customers additional value, choice and convenience,? Charter's senior vice president of programming, Allan Singer, said of the pact. ?More and more content is being enjoyed on tablets and other Internet-connected devices, and today?s viewers are sharing their TV experiences in new ways. Our agreement with Disney enables more robust ways to enjoy and socialize TV.?
