The Robbinsdale Area Schools Early Family Education preschool, Family Literacy, and Creative Play Preschool,
including Creative Play at Sonnesyn and Zachary Lane Elementary Schools, have earned the highest rating, four stars, from Parent Aware. Parent Aware helps parents in Minnesota find childcare and early education providers that are focused on excellent early learning and kindergarten readiness.?

The program has a one to four-star ratings system, which is a free service to families, which measures best practices identified by research that help children succeed in kindergarten and beyond. To earn the four star rating,
programs must use a curriculum that is aligned with the Minnesota Early Childhood Indicators of Progress (ECIP) and all lead childcare providers and/or lead teachers must complete at least eight hours of training on the
implementation of the curriculum.? Teachers in the Robbinsdale Area Schools early childhood programs are
all licensed teachers and have completed much more than the required eight hours of training on curriculum implementation.

Also to earn the four star rating, a program must conduct assessments using an approved tool with all children at least twice a year in the following areas:? social/emotional development, language and literacy, and mathematical thinking and physical development.? As well, all teachers must have completed at least eight hours of training on authentic child assessment.? The early childhood programs in Robbinsdale Area Schools use a portfolio assessment system in which assessments are given and progress is tracked.? This portfolio is passed to kindergarten teachers when students enter kindergarten in an elementary school in the district, giving the kindergarten teacher a better
understanding of their students.? The early childhood staff in Robbinsdale have completed well over the eight hours
of required training on authentic assessment.
