A sexy import from Spain, Los Vivancos extreme flamenco fusion features seven siblings with all the right moves

Here?s what you might expect when a show is entitled Los Vivancos extreme flamenco fusion, now playing a Resorts Superstar Theater. You would expect to see good looking Spanish dancers strutting their stuff, stamping their feet and posing in macho fashion for dramatic effect. And that is absolutely a major part of the evening. However, what you might not expect is that these same dancers also play instruments, from the flute, violin, bass and cello to banging on a box that has been amplified to serve as a drum.
The members of Los Vivancos are brothers and they are form one exceptionally talented family. The Vivancos are Elias, Josue, Josua, Cristo, Aaron, Isreal and Judah, and they are serious about the term ?fusion? in their show.
While the core of the performance is the cante (singing), toque (guitar playing), dance and palmas (handclaps) of flamenco, the show also incorporates ballet, hip-hop, circus tumbling and even a little comedy.
The evening begins with the brothers performing as instrumentalists, joined by the rest of their band and an expressive female singer. However, they will soon emerge from the band ensemble to the center stage where they provide the dramatic movements of modern flamenco together as a team, and in various combinations of solo and duet dances.
At some moments they are recreating a smoky Spanish club setting (complete with smoke) to reveal the dramatic side of flamenco with its emotional vocals, beautiful guitar work, and dance moves that incorporate the fire and emotion of classic flamenco.
However, in order to provide a more balanced show that will appeal to non-flamenco fans they also provide the fusion element. When the brothers gather on stage in dance practice attire, it is to recreate what happens in rehearsal, as some of the brothers make fun of their brothers who excel at ballet, while others show off their skills as hip-hop dancers complete with floor-spinning.
You can feel how relaxed they are with each other thanks to that intimate family bond and also the love and respect they feel for each other as they take turns in the spotlight.
A special note to the ladies: as someone astutely noted after the performance, ?This show would be perfect for a bachelorette or ladies night out party.?
The executives at Resorts, including owner Dennis Gomes, should be commended for bringing a show to Atlantic City that is so far removed from the standard casino revue.
Great dancing, great music and washboard abs are a potent combination on display at the Superstar Theater.
