San Antonio claims 2 of the 5 worst transportation headaches in Texas

SAN ANTONIO -

According to a study released Thursday by the Washington-based transportation research group, TRIP, the third and fifth worst travel trouble spots in Texas are in San Antonio.

No. 3 on TRIP's list: Interstate 35 between Loop 410 and FM 3009 in Schertz.

"Its horrendous. I mean, it takes forever. It's a crawl. I saw multiple accidents just two weeks ago in a 10-mile stretch," said Shawn Tyson, San Antonio resident and frequent traveler on I-35.

"You can always guarantee that after I get out of Austin's gridlock, I'm going to be stopped right here at 3009," said Jamie Taylor, of San Antonio.

Taylor works in sales and frequently uses I-35.

What needs to be done to ease congestion on this major artery?

"That's a very good question," said Tyson, "because we've seen so many places where there's a high amount of volume of cars but yet there doesn't seem to be the backups."?

"Either that or we need a corridor west of San Antonio just like they did east (with SH 130)," said Taylor. "It's either a toll road west (of I-35) or something. They're going to have to do something so we can get in to Austin (from) the west side of San Antonio."

No. 5 on the list: The stretch of North Loop 410 between 281 and I-35.

The high ranking of this highway might surprise some local motorists, but TRIP cites the interchange at Loop 410 and I-35 as one that needs improvement.

Upgrading it they say would ease congestion from the airport through the interchange.
