Estate Planning ? The Mortgage ? To Pay Or Not to Pay | TopDocInfoBlog.info

If you?re looking to have a swimming pool built in your backyard, you will need the services of a contractor. However, you can?t just hire anyone. The person for this job has to be specially trained to build swimming pools. Before you shell out money and sign your John Hancock, they must meet certain criteria.

o The pool contractor should have a current and valid license in the category for what they are contracting for. If they specialize in building and repairing, they must also be referred to as swimming pool specialty contractors on their license.

o If a general contractor that specializes in building structures wants a license as pool contractor, they would need to be classified under swimming pool specialty. Or they could have another specialty contractor to perform the work. For the overall scope of the project, plumbers, landscapers and others must do work according to what they are licensed to do.

o You have the right to inquire with the contractor to provide verification of his license or registration. It must be current and valid in order for them to work on a project. You can also request that the show you identification. Make sure that the name on the registration matches the one of the company.

o Regardless of whether they specialize in concrete pool construction, fiberglass swimming pools or ground swimming pools, you need to ask them for references. You should get at least two. One should be completed and the other can be current. When you call them to inquire, ask them how the company did from start to finish. Also, ask them if there were any subcontractors involved and how was the quality of their work.

o Don?t settle for one price on a contractor. You should get at least three bids so that you can compare. Make your decision from the information given.

o You can also ask people that you know if they can refer you to a pool contractor. In addition to that, check out groups such as builders? associations, a swimming pool or related association.

o If you?re not familiar with contracts, get information regarding that and binding agreements. Make sure that you read and understand everything on the contract. Don?t forget about the fine print. That is one of the most important parts. It explains things that are not shown above that. This is where you will find information regarding penalties, payments, etc.

o You should also educate yourself on home improvements. Having a swimming pool built on your property fits in that category and it will increase the value of your property.
